I went up to the local fabricators today to pick my crossbow nut up, it was free if i brought my crossbow to show when finished. on the way out he showed me these nifty little cutting disks for angle grinders, they are about 1mm thick and are super great for cutting bar stock. i asked where he got them and he said he got them from the gas suppliers. i asked if he knew if they had any decommissioned bottles. turns out that they don't but the fabrication shop have a helium one with a smallish rounded bottom. he said i could have it free when he gets round to it( i said fine it was free anyway). on the way out he asks if i could use some barstock, i say yes and he takes me round the corner and shows me the scrap bin. take what you want we have to pay for it removing anyway. short of it all: ask and thou shalt recieve.
Heres me paying for all my bar stock for years when all i had to do was ask

and most of it was in nice usable and storable sizes too---right?

I've mentioned several times getting more stock than I could use from a ornamental iron Fab shop for free. Of course if your name isn't "Thomas" they may charge for it...

it was a few small pieces of varying sizes. one is going to be a bordering hammer, one is going to be a spokeshave and another piece is going to hopefully be a forgewelded billet. only about 6inches long but they have other stuff i couldn't carry.
