Just one more item to go, and I can fight!

Post by Aaron »

Good Morning,

My helm has arrived at my house (but I'm in Korea…) from Ice Falcon Armoury!! By next weekend I can hold it (and strap it).

My gorett will be in from GAA armoury soon as well (it's a nice, surprisingly inexpensive, stainless steel job that looks really functional and sweet).

So, as of right now I have (top to bottom)…all in stainless (except for the padding, leather, etc…):

1. 15th Century Closed Face Salet

2. Coif with internal sheepskin and closed cell foam padding
Made By: - My Beautiful Wife

3. 14th Century Linen Gambeson (dark red)

4. 15th Century German Gothic Shoulders

5. Starburst pattern placard with black leather and fluted tassets (not quite like the picture shown…it's better!)

6. Medieval Riding Boots (Dark Red)

7. Club Fan Milanese Legs

8. Floating Elbows
Donated By: - Ice Falcon Armoury
Holes Punched By: Cet (Dave from Vulcan's Forge)
Grommets Added By: Aaron (all thumbs shop-monkey…proof some people do not have talent with armour).

9. Full floating vambraces
Shaped and Punched By: Cet (Dave from Vulcan's Forge)
Articulation By: Aaron and Armourworks
Grometted By: Aaron

10. Full floating rebraces
Shaped By: Aaron and Armourworks
Drilled and Grometted by: Aaron

11. Gauntlets
Initially Made By: Andy Ward
Reworked By: Prince of Darkmoore
Reworked Later (twice) By: Aaron
…note: It was just me fooling around with it. POD does GREAT work!

12. Front Greaves

13. Back Greaves
Made By: Aaron (trust me…they're ugly, but they work…)

14. Sabatons
Made By: Armourworks

The knee pads and cup are sports equipment, and do not rate mentioning in the esteemed company of the worked stainless steel and crafted cloth.

Ice Falcon always had the product ready on-time (sometimes THE DAY I ORDERED IT), to standard and was a dream to work with – worthy of a 30% tip for customer service (if I could afford it). He backs up his product, no questions asked. Great customer service while getting you into the most attractive and functional armour possible in the minimum amount of time is his objective.

Cet (Dave at Vulcan's Forge) gives very personal attention, and is a relaxing influence. I would suggest all wanna-be armourers to go study under him. He's honest, and relaxed.

Andy Ward was fast getting the product, but I think he didn't charge enough (and that may have been a problem with him closing gauntlets.com). Andy was on a crusade to make sure than nobodies fingers ended up like his, and when you're on a mission, the cost for your service goes out the window. He charged me $100. It should have been $200.

Revival Clothing made the purchase as easy as Amazon.com, and frankly I look better in my fighting clothes than I do in my court clothes…I may end up having to go to court sweaty!

Anyway, when the gorett gets to Japan from GAA (should be fast…I sent out the money order on Friday, and Master Geofrey has been great to work with for my wife's C-belt), I'll fight once and then post a full review on the entire suit, and each piece in turn.

Just wanted to crow!

Pictures next month!
