Roman Greave strapping help

Post by Jakob Hilditonn »

I just got my new Stainless Steel Roman Greaves from AB Hammer and the guys at Apprentice Armoury at http://www.creationtime.com.

These things are gorgeous!! Slicker than… well you know. The real knee cops that come with them have to be the toughest ones I’ve ever seen AND they were pre-painted black. Pictures and amateur review to come.

Now the joy of purchasing these quality greaves is not complete until my uncoordinated hands have marred them in the process of affixing them to my body. BEFORE I commence to strap these beautiful greaves and hidden cops, does anyone else have a pair and perhaps has a picture or three of how they did theirs?

Here is my plan, tell me what I’m going to do wrong before I err.

I have to wear knee braces like these on both knees..
http://www.sportmart.com/product/index. ... age=family
So I was going to make a loop of leather off the top of the cop that the Velcro strap can pass through, and then a second strap around the back of the knee to keep it from flopping. Allows them to be attached to my braces without them violating the integrity of the neoprene.

For the greaves themselves, I was thinking of lacing them on using ¾ inch d rings http://www.tandyleather.com/prodinfo.as ... =1&mitem=6
in a manner similar to this, http://www.mwart.com/xq/ASP/pid.777/cat ... roduct.htm
A lace below the calf, one above the calf and one on the middle of the knee seems to work. If laces are too much of a pain I could still affix straps to the Ds at a later date.

Padding and edging suggestions? Think leather and fur?

I am soliciting for opinions before I start drilling on these beautiful greaves. Thanks!

i wear a sport brace (rigid ACL brace) w/ my greaves for melee. i use two half inch straps, one just under the 'cop' section and one on the ankle.

I have two pair of d-rings riveted where most people strap, and run a length of paracord through the lower pair, around my ankle, cross behind the calf and through the upper set, then tied behind just under the back of my knee.

Thanks guys, I think I'm confident enough in my concept to start putting holes in stuff. Pics coming as soon as they are done.

My wife just bought me a pair of these for Christmass.. (What a WOMAN!!! :D ) Since they had one for a short guy and I am one of those guys all they had to do is tweak it a bit to fit. I did not have a clue, hell my wife measured my leg while I was asleep. I soo looking forward to getting these. I have some heavy duty brass buckles and burgundy latigo leather for the straps. They will look great!!!!
