For those of you who have never seen this book, $350 is a decent price for it. Trotman sell this for 350 pounds sterling, when they get a copy. L'Arte Dell'Armtura in Italia is the ultimate armour book. It is 549 pages long, and it is 99% good detailed photograph of armour from the 14th century on. The last 1% is text in Italian. A lot of the photographs show inside views of the pieces. This book seems to have been "made" for armourers!
Oh, and they only printed 1700 copies, so it is very hard to find.
Cheers,
Zanetto

This is a good book. I own a copy.
Depending on what you are looking for, I prefer some of the others. This one has a wide range of armour, but it has more late and parade stuff than I would prefer.
If you are into 15th century, you need the 'Mantova' book (also by Boccia). If you want a nice range of 14th-mid 16th cent. stuff I would buy the reprint of the Churburg catalog.
ABE has Armi e Armature Lombarde also - this is sort of a slightly inferior version of L'Arte, but still lots of pictures and well worth owning. They also have Armi Bianche Italiane which is basically a weapons book in the same series.
Bramante Editrice published a whole series of books on the 'technical arts' - it included armour, weapons, ceramics, glass, etc. They are all worth owning. Cover price on them was about $100 a volume when they came out. Every now and then you can still find these cheap, but it is getting hard.
Over the years I have picked up many of these - L'Arte, Mantova, Lombarde, Armi Bianche, Armi da Fuoco (the guns book), Churburg, etc. They are all worth owning, but the prices are getting really steep. European Armour in the Tower of London and Swords and daggers in the Tower of London are also good. They seem to be a little cheaper for the moment.....
ABE and bibiofind are really your friends for this kind of book.

About 14-15 months ago I picked up a new copy of the Mantova book for around $90 from an Italian book seller that had just started listing his stock on-line. The book had sat unsold on his shelf for years. At about the same time I found a Dutch book seller on had three new copies of "L'Arte Dell'Armatura in Italia" for sale at $200 each (I bought the last one). He said that he bought them from another book seller that had them sitting around for years. Please keep in mind that it took me all most 2 years to find a copy of these books for sale at any price.

Darn.....
I've been trying to track down some Boccia for a while.
The "Mantova" book and the Churburg catalog are the next two books I want. Unfortunately I bought the Laking reprint from Ken Trotman a while ago and I've used up my book budget for now
My copy of the Rhodes book should arrive next week. I'm at least looking foreward to that.

Thanks. I have a few sources for Churburg.
It is Mantova that is a pain to find.
Also, Laking's 7 Centuries is also on my list, if you happen to come across it.

The same book dealer that had "L'Arte Dell'Armatura in Italia" also has an original copy of "A Record of European Armour and Arms Through Seven Centuries" by Guy Laking for $1800 (it hasn't been listed on ABE yet).
Recycle Bookstore's phone number is 408-286-6275.
Ars Libri, Ltd also has an original set for sale for $2000.
http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/BookDetails?bi=82966589
Here is a copy of the reprint for £300.00 (approx. US$ 427.37), Ken Trotman who published the reprint is asking for £395 so this is a good price if the books are in new or fine condition.
http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/BookDetails?bi=106004062
Ken Trotman Ltd. says they have less then 10 copies left of the 125 they had printed. The price is £395.
http://www.kentrotman.ltd.uk/
Please note the ads for a $295 edition published by AMS Press is false. AMS Press was going to publish it 20 years but didn't do it. They never got around to taking it off of their list of books for sale. I know this because I called them and asked.

Sinric,
Thank you for the footwork. ABE is much easier than my manual methods of tracking books down.
I also contacted AMS Press a while back after they missed the listed Nov 2001 release date as per Amazon, Barnes and Noble and every other book seller in the area.
I was a bit ticked as I had been waiting and put off buying from Trotman. It turned out that I could have had the books in hand instead of thinking about them.
Oh well. Live and learn.
Still on the hunt for Mantova. Nothing on any of the online resources that I know of.
1800 is a bit rich for my library right now and I am interested in the Claud Blaire foreword and the armour sales supplement. I will be going with the copy. An original will most likely end up in my possesion, just not this time around.
Also, their are a couple of books on the Stibbert Collection on Abe. I highly suggest this museum. It is a VERY impressive for a small museum in Florence. The books should be good, but seeing it in person is an excellent experience.
The curator is (or at least was) very friendly to studente de armature (IIRC). I highly suggest a BIG book of sketches done entitled Abiti e Fogge Civili e Militare, dal I al XVIII Secolo. It is absolutely gorgeous. I believe that it was rereleased on 20 Nov 1975. Prior to that it was last published in 1914. I stumbled on it in a small book store in Firenze, quite accidentally. The copies aren't numbered, however, I was led by the curator to believe that it is extremely limitted and hard to find. When I brought the book back to the museum the curator was astonished, to say the least.
Unfortunately there isn't an ISBN on this volume or a couple of the others that I brought back from Europe and refer to often. This makes finding other copies quite difficult.
