Greetings all,
I had hoped to have pics of the finished ailettes this evening, but I have made a critical error in the process. I attempted to apply the hide glue after I had painted the pieces. This resulted in a catostrophic failure.
The pigments in the egg tempura paint run and smear when the hide glue is applied after the piece has been painted. Luckily, I was able to wash the mess off and will be able to fix the mistake, but the resulting mess is decidedly not photogenic.
I was hoping to use the hide glue as a sealant on the piece to protect the paints, which are decidedly not water resistant. This is not possible. The gesso or hide glue, whichever you choose to use, must be used before the project is painted.
