A steal on steel....

Post by Krag »

Oh, the puns just never stop!

Anyways, I often see people looking for small tidbits of good steel for making punches, stamps and such. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from these people with no problems. Thgey often have a bunch of tool steel drops listed on ebay at great prices. Shipping adds up pretty fast on steel, but for those of you in the central/east US it shouldn't be bad. I've made all my chisels from A2 tool steel with good results. They also have a lot of D2 drops at low prices. Many of which are big enough to do a war hammer head out of! Both steels are relatively easy to heat treat (air hardening). I don't suggest forging the D2, it's a real pain, but A2 moves nice under the hammer! Both can be stock ground easily.
No, I'm not affiliated in any way with them. I've just found them to be useful.

...and if you outbid me on anything I'll kick your ass Image.
