I meant to post this here and accidentally put it on the combat board. Since I don't think I can move it, I'm reposting it here. Any advice, sources, reviews would be appreciated for the shoes and chauses I need for my daughter by early May 2005.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am putting together a circa 1400's armour for my 8 year old daughter in a hurry, in time for a school 'knightly' presentation and demonstration she will help me put on again this year in early to mid May, before I have to have surgery later in the month.

The effort to get this armour together is taking place in just a little over a month total, with the help and advice of numerous armourers, who were nice enough to supply armour pieces, accesories and supplies for the project on essentially zero notice and on a very tight budget for a project of this nature. Actually I'm way over my original so called budget, but it is still quite a reasonable deal considering the type of harness, the speed of delivery and the quality of work those involved are know for.

It is still a kid's harness, but it will be a decent kids harness. I'll try to post photo's once it is completed.

So far the active participants providing armour items and accessories include James Gillaspie; Bascinet-Visor-arms-legs-front only greaves, Eric Dube & Francois L./Armurerie du Duche; breastplate-backplate-faulds-spaulders-1/2 gauntlets, Gordon Osterstrom (Knut)/Welded Chainmaille; aventail-spats, Greg & Gretchen Anderson/Mandrake Armory; buckles - vervelles, Christian Fletcher; sword belt for Paul Chen broadsword/scabbard). These folks are doing a great job of getting this together quickly and putting up with my pleas for help.

Many thanks to those above and to archivers who already offered advice, assistance and/or backup pieces & supplies if I got stuck, including Andre of Ice Falcon Armory, Brent Junkins of Anshelm, Steve (SOFC) and others.

I was planning on going with a simple 1066 type hauberk and Norman cap. But Knut had a backlog that did not allow for a hauberk to be custom fit and produced in time. Then James Gillaspie told me he had a prototype bascinet mostly done, that was originally intended for use by a page in a Joan of Arc movie he had been in France to do some work for, so the project changed to full blown 1400's kit to go with this bascinet over a period of a few day's discussions regarding what additional pieces he could provide in time for the show.

There are a few items I still need to deal with where I hope people here can help with advice and sources.

Chauses. Assuming my wife does not kill me for spending much more money than I originally told her I had planned on, I would like to find pre-made kids size chauses (leg hosen basically), thick enough and durable enough to go under the plate leg harness and not look wrong and still be comforable. My wife will be too busy making a gambeson and fabric coif to handle this herself. Does anyone have sources? Suggestions? Alternative ideas? It is like I said, a kid's suit, but I am trying to avoid glaring inaccuracies and be essentially right in appearance.

Footgear. Does anyone have experience with the kids 14th century footwear now being sold by on www.revival.us for $34.95? These look good on the website photo's. I would be covering them with the flat ring, welded mail spats from Knut anyway. Alternative sources and suggestions for kid's footgear to go with this maille spats?

I have to have everything by the end of the first week in May or there won't be time to get it all done, fitted and make sure my daughter is comfortable moving in it and using her weapons safely in it.

Thank you in advance.

I wear linen chauses from Black Swan/Historic under my kit (pas kit, not regular) Went through the Battle of 30 without a single rip. Get a size small and cut to size?

Is there a particular color you're looking for? Do you have garters or do you not need those?

I look forward to seeing the final kit. It's too bad she will grow out of it so soon.

I was hoping for red or black, but color is not as important as being appropriate in terms of design and appearance for the period. I had not thought about garters, since they are going under armour. I assumed I'd just lace them at the top to her braies. Do I still need a garter?
