I would like some info. on when the wisby coat of plate was worn. Was it worn under chainmail or on its own? Any history or background on this would be of great help!
Thanks

The several Wisby Coats were worn definatly during August 1361, These particular coats were worn on the Sweedish Island of Gotland near the City of Wisby. They were worn by the City Militia, and were likely not the best armour avalible during that time. Simular coats were worn between the 1200's through the 1500's (or later if you count brigs)
I don't remember them finding any maille other than coifs at the Wisby site, but over the time that CoPs were used they were depected as worn both over maille and on their own.
