Sarmatian Spangenhelm

I made this Photoshop image inspired by the Sarmatian spangenhelms depicted on Trajan's Column. The source photo material was the cool "Grog" helm by Halberds. When I am ready with the rest of the harness (i.e. a scale hauberk with short sleeves), I will approach Mr. Halberds to see if he might be interested in making this for me. It will be for SCA combat, of course.

Anyhow, the rendering came out so cool I just wanted to share.
Cheers,
Tim

Damn, Finkas!
I can't wait to get back into armour just to see what the hell YOU show up in! Any chance you'll be showing up at any of the BMDL practices? I hope to be in kit by at least the end of the summer.
Cheers!

Nice rendering too. The additions (or what I'm guessing are additions) are fairly seamless.
Regarding Trajan's Column - is one of these the spangenhelm you refer to?

Thanks for your kind words everybody.
Hew: I referenced photos of Trajan's Col that were in the Osprey book
The Sarmatians. The photos were not of that particular bit of the sculpture but yeah...similar design.
I Just realized the second horizontal band looks a bit overbuilt. I am going to trim it down a bit. Note: virtual armoring is a lot easier than the real thing!

Tim

...and here's the revision:

Added a little detail on the leather edging and corrected some of the rivets.

Tim

Now that's wild.... but doable
Are the scales riveted to leather for the drape?
Hal
Ps: You sure have a talent with your photo shop.

Thanks for your reply, Hal.
Yes, I would make the drape: scales riveted to leather or linen backing with leather edging. Otherwise the helmet would have a slat back, which would end up being hidden.
Thanks for the compliment but making virtual armor is NOTHING compared to what YOU do with real steel!

Tim
