I just turned some arbor extensions for my buffer on the lathe.
Did I say I love my lathe?

tool envy...
I used to make vervelles from clampin a 3/8 drill in a vise and filing away on barstock.... ( not a smaat move but it does the job)
does it drag the motor much?
( need to do the same to my buffer when I get it set up)

Oui Hal, Le Machiniste!
Samuel, it works the same as the motor arbor. No vibrating or dragging. If you ever get a chance to buy a lathe, even a small one, you will love it.

Le Machinist,
A good project for the lathe is an adapter, that will adapt the 5/8" - 11 threads of the grinder motor to a 1/2" or bigger drill chuck.
Samuel mentioning putting the drill in the vice reminds me of what I used to do.
A big course file works wonders on brass.
Just keep the end off of the chuck. Once in a machine shop a guy was filing on the metal. The tip of the file caught the spinning chuck . He did not have a handle on the file ether.
The lathe shot the file like a spear thrust on an unarmed peasant. A sucking chest wound. Not a pretty sight. I will tell you about my finger getting sewed back on sometime. Damn just thinking it about it makes it hurt all over again......
Have fun.....
Hal
