riveted maille from India

Post by Halvgrimr »

so is anyone one this board actually working with any of the companies over there?

i ordered a shirt from PurpleHeart recently and want to add some lenght to it when i get it. i want to get a piece 60 inches wide by about 1.5 feet long. Purpleheart said they can get custom order pieces like this but they have never gotten back to me.

can anyone else thats working with them get special orders like this?

(i know Steve offers an amazing do it yourself kit but then the mail wouldnt match)

John Daniels sells the rings from India loose, I bought a shirt from him and also got a handful of loose rings, and they are the exact smae as the rings in the shirt. John will also put it together for you, if you like.

I'm in the middle of placing an order with International Steelcrafts India. I can ask them what their prices are for what you need, but I'll need to know abit more about what you've got. Is it mild, stainless, or aluminum? Their standard ring size is 3/8", and they also work in 5/16". Which did you get?

Shipping a package from India tends to cost about $85, plus possible dock fees, which ran me an extra $40 on a load of avantails I did a year ago. If you'd like I could tack you onto our order, and you could split the cost with us. Right now we're splitting it 7 ways by the cost of what we're getting, so your share would be pretty small. Then we'll have to figure out how much it will cost to mail it from California to Missouri.

--im looking for mild steel, as for the size Purplehearts page lists it as 0.06" thick, 27/64" ID, and 1/2" OD

Decordene tells me that is roughly equivelant to 16G (.0625), 3/8" I.D. (24/64")or 7/16" I.D. (28/64") but suggests the 3/8" stuff, so would go with the 3/8" stuff

I just sent a mail asking for a price on your 18" by 60" piece. Mild steel, 3/8" riveted. Do you want it joined in a loop like a skirt, or just a big rectangle?
Anyway, due to the time differences, and this being the end of the week, we might not have a price quote until Monday.

Here's the quote I got from International Steelcrafts:

RECTANGULAR PIECE 18" X 60"
3/8", 16GA-MS-NON COATED 01 NO. US$ 170.00

The shipping quote on our order is a lot higher than I expected, at $430. I've decided to split shipping proportionally to the cost of what each of us is ordering, which would bring your shipping (at least to get it into the country) to $28.59. There's a possible dock fee, depending on how customs handles it, and then shipping from California to Missouri. My best guess is the whole thing will cost you around $220.

It looks like I'm not going to be able to get all of our cash together to cut the cashiers check until tomorrow. If you'd like to get your mail with ours, let me know by then, and toss a check in the mail. I'll cover you- worst comes to worst I'm pretty sure I could sell a piece like you ordered.

If you'd like to try mailing it direct and taking the shipping on your own, you could try contacting them yourself at intlags@sancharnet.in
Regards,
Gaston

--damn, thats almost half what i paid for the whole shirt, thanks for the offer but cash might be short this month (house and car insurance due) and i wouldnt want to leave you hanging with an odd piece of mail so i better pass,

guess i can always buy the links from the Ring Lord and have a do it yourself project (like i need another one of those Image
