East German Officers boots

Post by Pathfinder »

Where do you get these at? I would like somthing inexpensive to wear with my armour that won't interfere with greaves that doesn't look too modern.I've found them at the Sportsmans Guide but they said they would be out of stock til August/September and I need them earlier than that.
Any suggestions for these or some other kind of boot?

Trident Military has them, but their site seems to be down.
It's site is www.tridentmilitary.com - not surprisingly.
I bought a pair and they've lasted me two years, and I wear them almost every day. They're very rugged and are fairly period looking. I wear them for fighting because they're comfortable and have good traction. They also make good motorcycle boots.

I have a different pair of boots I wear with garb, however.

Sportsman's guide out of stock? I guess I got my pair just in time...

Anyway, one thing you can do to these boots to make them look a bit better is to cut off the top 4 inches or so, and sew on some extra leather, and fold it over on to the boot. You will want the skin side facing out when the flap is folded over.

The idea is to do something like this:

I don't have a good photo now, but I'll try to remember to bring my camera to our meeting tomorrow night to get a better shot.

I haven't done this yet myself, but it's in the top five of my to-do list.

Sportsman's Guide has 'em in and out of stock. You gotta catch 'em when they just got a bunch. The nice thing about waiting for them is the price....only 20 bux.

You can almost always find pairs of these East Germany Army boots on ebay--both the smooth officer's boots and the pebble-textured jackboots. I prefer the latter, partially because they don't come up as high on the calf so they fit better (not an issue if you have very slim lower legs). Image

I found mine about a year ago at a flea market in southern Germany. I got the pebble grained leather. Paid ten bucks.

After a year's worth of polishing the pebble grain has come out, leaving a very pleasing finish. they are very rewarding to put a good coat of polish on. I live on a military base, so Kiwi is cheap.

I would caution you on something I didn't know, and that the eastern European leathers are not a tough as modern North American boots. A few minutes slipping across an icy parking lot was enough to gouge the leather.
