My new creation

Post by David Hagler »

Yeh, I know, it has Sinric's cuirass. However for the one I wanted to do, it was the closest and I just figured it would work without having to draw a totally different one out. In order to get it to look like the one I wanted to do, circa 1415-25 there was just no other avenue to take. Actually I was trying to copy the one seen in a drawing in the book "Knights" by Andrea Hopkins and really no definate existing piece.
So, it turned out well. Added spikey stuff to pauldrons, etc.
This was kind of a "having fun" piece, and really was not meant to be that special. No heat treating or spring stuff here. 18 gauge. Basically your average ren faire suit. I even went as low as to add a bascinet that was taking up room in the shop. The XVIIIa sword I got from MRL-it's a damn good one too I might add. It's my Armageddon sword.
The harness is for sale though. Mainly because I'm getting tired of keeping all this stuff.

So, thought I'd put a pic up of the little things I get in my head sometimes. Just to let all of you in on the stuff I do between cigarettes and coffee.
What ya think?
I'll post the eBay link in the classifieds.
Till later. D

Pretty nice David. Wish I could produce stuff like that... Just one question:

Whats the deal with the Pauldrons? I mean are those period designs?

They look "off" for that rig, especially the big one.

Cool, The knight in shining armour. I like the legs best. Oh and that sword is it the shadow? I got one like it and I like it very well.

Good work on your armour, and good luck on e-bay.

Ps: One more thing are their boots or shoes under the chassues (sp)?

Yes, those pauldrons are very similar (not exact, I think) to some shown in some paintings and tapestries. One is a St. George and the Dragon painting, and I think a tapestry or painting of the Duke of Urbino. I'm too tired to look for the books right now, to give you the ref.

Boots under the chain sabatons.
That's the new Arbedo sword from MRL.
The pauldrons are thrown to the wind on this one and are just what I saw in the modern drawing. Now, whether the artist took them from an original I don't know.
I just thought they looked good.
They do fit in I think with the earlier designs of the first quarter of the 15th.

Oh, and that's chainmail on the demi-greaves.
I love that touch.

I love that wasp waisted look you have in the body armour. A lot of folks don't even shoot for that, but it makes a big visual difference. Does it help distribute the weight of the harness better?

Looks good there, David. Could we get some more pictures closeup of just the breast/back?
