period lining for helm (SOFC)

Post by mik »

Hello Steven,

You posted recently about your new helm padding. I would like to know if you are using this helm for sca heavy combat? If so
hot does it perform compare to the old regular blue foam padding? How about impact absorbency, sweat absorbency, heat...

I really like the look of it, but before I tear out the padding in my helm to make a more period lining I would like to know about these....

Many thanks.

Mine is excellent, it fits a ton better than the blue foam, feels nice on my head and absorbs all the hit. I'll never go back to blue foam, and its handsome as hell to boot

Hello Thor,

Is your lining about the same specs as the one of SOFC?
Can you give some details and/or pictures of yours ???

Thanks

Amen! I've got a linen liner stuffed with tow (the raw fibers linen is made from). It's more comfortable, has a good amount of cushion against blows, it's more absorbant of my copious sweat, and it's cooler. I don't get sweat in my eyes until I take my helmet off.

I based my construction on the design in Brian Price's Techniques of Armour Reproduction. The book is well worth the price.

Unfortunately, I have been a slacker and have not fought in some time. So I have not yet fought with the liner.

I do not have this book, is the pattern available on the net or is it Copywright?

To steve, thanks anyway, if you do try it out, let us know...

I found the book on Paladin, but at $79.95 US, $122,61 CND at current exchange rate, I can't afford it... :-( Is it very different from the pattern of steve ???

MIK,
Look at www.booksamillion.com if you join their club for $5.00USD, Techniques of Armour Reproduction is $53.61 USD.

I guess I have to make one, eh?

I hate my blue foam.

Try www.bn.com , www.amazon.com and www.buy.com and look for the book. It is sometimes available for substantially less than list price.
