Question about material for.........................

Post by Constancius »

Gauntlets. I was walking through Lowes today and saw some metal studs. They looked pretty thick and thought....hmmmmmmmm They are used for load bearing walls. I wonder..... Does any one know whether or not this would be good material for gauntlets? Money issues prevent me from buying a pair, so I've decided to make a pair. IIRC the prise wasn't too bad so I might try it. Just wondering what you guys though.
Thanks.

Are these for full-contact fighting? I don't have a gauge, but I'd be surprised if the gauge steel for those is more than 18, probably more like 20. You probably want at least 16 gauge steel. Also, those framing studs are galvanized, which could cause problems if you need to do hot work.

Hi,
If you are shopping at Lowes then you need to look over where they have their glass cut to fit.If you look just down that aisle you should find some small sheets of mild and you can get 16ga. there.you should be able to get enough for what you want to do.Hope this helps because the studs you are looking at are too thin to work for guantlets.
