I'm hoping to be able to put together a new armor kit over the next several months. I have a few ideas in mind, but not sure about arm armour and a few other things. Here's the plan.

-Spangenhelm with a persian middle eastern look.. something like that
-Lamellar Body
-Gorget: I want the under tunic to be green, so maybe green leather so blends in with the tunic? Comments on that one?
-Hidden shoulders under the tunic (plastic I shpoze, for cheapness sake.
-For the arms/elbows I'm guessing bazubands, it's the color/material that I'm not sure of. I'm wanting to have a green and black overall color.
-Gauntlets: No Idea, I don't want to wear 14th century looking gauntlets, I think it would just ruin the look. But at the same time I don't wouldn't have alot of money to spend. Black leather? I dunno.
-Demi gauntlets I can make.. black leather again I guess. Would green black and copper accents look bad for the overall kit look?
-Hidden legs with baggy pants.

Don't think I've missed anything.

P.S. as far as persona goes.. early (7-9th century) middle eastern/persian/hun/something along those lines.

I designed this rig for a person that had a magyar (hungarian persona). They has since dropped out of the SCA so, this kit never came to fruition.

Go to silk roads design armoury for inspiration. most stuff I incorporated I found there.

Drew something up, but work isn't giving me a window with which to scan.

Here's what I'd do if I had the fundage at the moment to go SCA with my kit (in fact, I want to, b/c Morgan's promised me a drubbing.. just gotta keep working on the materials). My color scheme is red/black and white/black for personal reasons, but it should work.

1. Get a cheap spuntop helm. Mount black leather scale over the metal sheets.
2. Build good shoulders onto your lamellar body rig. For correctness' sake if you're playing heavy, consider using a full armor with skirt and short sleeves, as this kills most of your harness needs in one shot.
3. Bazubands work, for your period splinted forearms would also do the job. Elbows can be hidden under a poofy sleeve. Advantage being that the leather for same can be black and thus add to your color scheme.
4. **Consider** a full-length felt caftan over top of your regular one. If you do this, you've got padding everywhere you need it, and you can cover that sucker up in applique work and/or dye the felt to suit your color needs. You'll want to ditch that sucker when it's too hot out, but it'll be a godsend when the winter wind is up.

I'm working on a gauntlet design that will protect my hands while still letting me pull a bow, but I'll be lucky to have it finished by Christmas. If you use leather edging, and dye your lacing and leather green, you should really be able to pull off the look.

As far as the helm goes, I'm going to commission the guys at armourandcastings for a spangenhelm, not sure if a spangenhelm is period, but I liked the look of the one Isane Irish showed me, and it's cheap which works for me. Thanks again for all the info.

FYI that exact helm was for THIS rig.

one month from order to door step. 1 1/2 weeks of that was shipping.
