Greetings All,
This past weekend we held a workshop at DeGrendelus Medieval Martial Arts school to assemble a few of these new kits for the school and the students. I provided most of the tools, the school provided workspace and refreshments. The workshop provided a wonderful opportunity for me to observe various ages, strengths and experience levels putting the pieces together. We had people as young as 10 and 12 as well as a young lady of 16 working alongside some adults. I prepped the kits by creasing the nasal to nape band and the slats to expedite the time, as I did not have enough tools to allow everyone to work at once, but the rest of the pieces were dressed and shaped by the students. I was most impressed by some of the young people who stuck to the project through the afternoon, dressing their parts, shaping and peening much longer than I would have first given them credit for. The youngest at 10 had to be dragged away by his mother with the promise that he would get the opportunity to finish his kit the next time when we do a follow up class next month. This brings me to my next observation. That with the unfamiliarity with the tools and processes, no one was able to finish in the six hours of the workshop. Most were about half through, with one diehard bolting the rest of the kit together so he could change the bolts out for rivets when he went to work the next day. Though I finished the first one in five hours, it would be unrealistic to expect most to do the same, I would allow for twice that time if you haven’t done something like this before. I am going to do a follow up class to finish these up next month.
I still need to do a step by step tutorial for this, but the next couple of weeks are busy with the holidays. I have a quantity of the kits up for grabs now that the workshop is taken care of and if any wish to get these prior to the tutorial I am going to start a new thread in the classifieds. Thanks for all the feedback and positive reinforcement.
Cheers, Erick Davidson

For those people who don't read the clasified as often as the construction board, this helm kit is now for sale in another thread.

Oh and <BUMP> cause this is still such a cool helm.

Zweihammer has just won the Archive Award for Building a Better Mousetrap. I don't even *do* early period and I want one. Put me down for one, bro. Definitely. 5 hours of work, $80? HELLS yeah.

I'm sending this to every newbie fighter I know.

Edited to add - what historical culture would be congruous with this helm, for those of us suddenly interested in designing an SCA heavy kit around it?

Baron Alejandro,
This is a good location for basic information pertaining to the Valsgrad 6 Helmet

One beauty of this helm is that it is (for the moment) "Unique". I hope EVERYONE dosn't make one... But we should get as many of them together at Pennsic, Gulf Wars, Estrella, wherever for a "Family Photo". :)

Looks like there was fun to be had! I sent an email Erick, and am looking at the mid to end of January for one helm kit and (at least) 2 of the gauntlet lits.

BTW, had you just cold peined the rivets or were some hot piened?

Hrólfr, who's planning on adding some brass, too!

Greetings All, Sorry to bump this again, but I would like future readers of this post to check out this other thread as I have posted some of helm kits completed by young people.
