I found a couple items of interest in a borrowed A&A by Paul Martin.

pl55 The inside of Ulrich de Werd, Landgrave of Lower Alsace (d1344) shows the inside of his helm. Leather suspension system of triangles joined in a stitched circle.

pl75 An 18th C drawing of the effigy of Jean III de Ribeaupierre (d c1362) with a spike attached to the metacarpal of one of his gauntlets (point extends past fingers).

Excellent! I have seen the first one you mention from a line drawing. I mentioned it in a previous post;

I think quite a few people would like to see that picture, me included.

That second one sounds interesting too. Is it on his sword hand? Could it be an early locking device for the gauntlet?

What's the book like overall? Worth getting?

No, it is not for locking the gauntlet. There are two attachements holding it on, it comes to a sharp point. I think it is on his sword hand, but the drawing isn't quite good enough to tell which side the thumb is on. Image

Glendour uses it as a reference on a regular basis. I'm going to be looking for a copy.
