Well people, I've not been very active in my metalwork as of late i must say, most projects died and went to my scrap pile. This one i thought I'd share and get peoples thoughts on, enjoy.
It is somewhat loosely based off of a stirrup from the former R.T Gwynn collection (now sold off and split up). It is described as a Burgundian stirrup and that's what I'm calling it Smile .The armourers mark is unattributed but appears on another piece.
There is a similar one on the horse armour in the Wallace collection, whether its the same one, I'm not really sure. unlikely as i understand the Wallace has a no additions policy???
My version is based off of my own measurements but i tried to keep the proportions the same. The sides are constructed from 2mm mild steel, more like 1.5 near the base due to stretching and hammer work. I did this on purpose to put some proper shape into it rather than just bend it, looks nice on the inside too Very Happy.
The foot plate will be 1/4" bar formed into a circle with two horizontal bars just off center for more support. There will be a little piece of scroll work that protrudes upwards like the original, ibelieve it was to add grip, though, I'm guessing really
The leather box is constructed from 2mm and 4mm mild steel for strength and looks. The various components will be welded together for ease of construction. From the image i have, i believe the original to be forge welded together as there are no rivets to hold the foot plate and sides to each other...
Pictures to follow shortly. I'll update each day as i work on it more. feel free to request pictures.
Sorry about the large pictures, no editing software... favours greatly appreciated Wink
The first image is of the pattern i drafted, roughly 15cm long, sorry about the blurr, shaky hands and all.

Next up is the cross section I'm aiming for, this has changed somewhat with the fluting but will be altered once fluting is done.

Next is a blurry image showing where I've thinned and stretched to obtain the cross section i need.

This shows my poor fluting skills that will be altered once all the fluting is laid. its currently a little wobbly...

finally, the fluting from the outside with a quick line drawn to show what I'm aiming for. Again, my wobbly fluting will be hammered and sanded out Laughing
That's it for now, thanks for looking, more to follow in the next couple of days as i forge the leather box and base plate.
Again, VERY sorry about the huge images.
