Gauntlet progress

Post by DELETEMYACCOUNT »

So, Ratty pulled a fast one on me and got me the fingers for my finger gauntlets. So I got all athletic and cut out pieces for the back of the hand part. I still havent found where we packed the digital camera from the move but I included a sketch to show what I'm attempting to make. I'm doing the back of the hand out of 16ga steel and the part that covers the thumb is gonna be a plain black hardened leather. Since that part wasnt there in the real thing I'm trying to make it kinda disappear. The steel part is gonna kinda match my bazubands from AnC. I havent decided what the decoration is gonna be yet but I might try and cast something.
I got the fingers today and I have to say how impressed I am by them.Nice job Clay. Thanks:)

Wanna see pics!

I'd make the whole piece out of steel and then cover that part in leather.

Actually the hardened leather should be fine there. I've been fighting in gauntlets made entirely from leather for a while now and no problems.
So, I got the one formed and started on the other. I didnt even think it would be so hard to get them to match up. They're close but not perfect. That's gonna drive me nuts too, I just know it. So, how do y'all finish the outsides to make them look so sweet and perfect? I put the ball pein hammer in my vise and beat out some of the bigger lumps but I'd really like to do a better job. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks!
