I was checking my hockey gear when i had this idea. For those of use that don't have a welder so we can't make bargrills for helms, could a hockey mask bargrill be mounted on to a helm and be legal for sca combat? I though this up as a way to make a pot helm or kettle hat legal. I think if the grill was bent into shape and then riveted to the helm some way it would work. Any thoughts?

if this is just one or two you could mail them to me and I could probibly do it.
Just scetch out the design or I can come up with somthing.
Although I will not have the equipment set up to do stainless untill probibly november at the earlyest.
I will be able to start mild grill work in about two to three weeks.
price would depend mostly on style.
probibly 20-35 plus shipping.

While a welded bargrill is pretty, welding is not absolutely necessary to grill a helm. Use a closed face design like a 13th-c. helm and put round- or square-stock bars to bar the ocularia. Round stock needs to be flattened at the ends for drilling and riveting, and you might consider some decorative treatment of each spatulate end of the bar, but with that and enough breaths cut in the faceplate of the helm, you can make a hard hat without having to organize a welder.
If you must have welded grills and none of you can buy a welding setup, see what a welding, steel, and ironwork shop would charge to stick your grills together. If you can supply him with kits of accurately fitted parts, perhaps mocking them together with ductape so he understands what the thing is to look like (or draw him a nice neat plan) and what it's to do, he should be able to give you good, well-penetrated welds quickly and easily, which translates into "cheap." Remember that weld joints are not best butted together like this ||, but notched so they meet more like V, or if really deep, a V from both sides: an X. That way the welding bead can fill up the whole works and be every bit as strong as the metal it is joining.
