I'm having the bars pulled off my sallet and replaced with a hinged period visor. It is a German sallet with a rigid (non-articulated) tail.
My question is this:
For the visor should it have the peaked brow peice or simply the face plate? Was it a regional thing?
Thanks in advance.

It seems both were used. If you have a nice brow line on the existing helmet, you can add a faceplate, otherwise you can add the full visor. Unless you like both the peaked brow plate, and the faceplate, in which case you can add a separate brow reinforcement plate an the faceplate. It seems all these things were done in those days.

German salets tended to be longer in relation to their heighth. Italian salets tended to be taller in relation to their length. I think that salets without separate visors tended to be German, but I'm not positive about that.
