where to find upholsterer's cotton batting

Post by jamesn_13 »

Are there any online places I could get this stuff or should I just seek out an upholsterer place near me?

No need to go on-line.....
Any "decent" sewing center will have
the cotton batting you seek.As well
the typical Wal-mart sewing center will
carry the batting in a couple of different
weights.

Nearly every decent sized town has upholstery shops. Find your local shop and inquire where they get theirs. Their supplier may be within convenient driving range for you.

Bulk batting comes is generally cheaper by the square foot. The stuff they have Walmart is really expensive and you'll need lots of it.

The stuff they have at wallmart is also synthetic and so no-good. The wall marts around here are anyway.

One way you could find it is to take a trip down to the fashion district in toronto. That's queen and spadina area. I've always been able to find free parking down there somewhere. Anyway there's about a bazillion fabric stores including a few that sell only upholstery stuff. You should be able to find what you want there and the amount of competition means you'll get the best price.

The stuff my wife uses came from the states. It was $20 for 20 pounds which is a LOT of batting. The shipping was another $20. which makes it about $40 US. Or about $65 or so CDN.

All the Walmarts around me only sell the polyfill batting. The only local place I've found is Joanne Fabrics and locally owned fabric/sewing stores.
I'd suggest looking around the smaller shops in your area.
