First try stainless steel lamellar

Post by Brokentooth »

Hello all,

Ive been lurking around a while and decided to finally take the plunge and put a pic of what Im working on up. I used 18g stainless and 550 para cord for the lamellar, the shoulders are thick leather, I dont know the weight but its about twice the thickness of my belt.

I intend to take this kit apart over the winter and put leather between each row, trying for a Byzntiene appearance. Not certain how I will finish off the shoulder/upper arm protection but am game for any sugestions.

Oh and the whole thing is a bit off line the measurements worked when I started but either the steel shrunk or I expanded a bit, I still swear the steel shrunk  ,either way I let the torso out a bit :D The chain was purchased and now has a front and back slit so I dont feel like I am in a mini skirt.

Wow thats a lot of work in stainless. Did you do the cutting and punching by hand or some kind of large scale/industrail process?

Thanks Ronnin I like the look so far. I am lucky I work at a place that does decoritive metal work and they decided to train me in making die sets for our presses. Needless to say I had a fair idea as to what kind of die I would like to try my hand at. All the stainless was punched out on an industrial press and then tumbled to deburr. Nothing like a fringe benni :D
