I'm working on a two piece pattern to make a chalcis bascinet.. it's a prototyping, and making it and working on it, i learned a lot about patterning.
But now i have a problem... i asked to the friend girl in question, to take measurement of her head, she did, i used such measures to size the pattern.. cutted, shaped.. wow it's coming quite nice!
Then i double checked the measures, and Inoticed that the helm is a bit too small.. well.. next time... but today I discovered that she missed to include her ears into the measurements...
Now i have a potential bascinet that could fit a children, but i'm quite pleased of it because is a creature of mine, from begin to the end.
I think i could solve the problem adding a triangular patch to the back of the helm, where the weld would join the two halves. The question I make to you is: do you think is a dumbass idea? It don't seem too hard.. maybe will be hard to fit it and weld nicely. Considering that the helm is for reenactment and not for heavy combat i'm not so worried of it's solidity.
Any idea? I suggested her to cut away her ears, but she dislike the idea (girls... )

Yeah besides cutting off her ears.... (not serious of course) you could likely add a center strip in the middle. It just need be an inch or so section. Will add you welding but if you are new to pattern making straight lines are easiest as well as it gives you more control. I would just rough form it to fit the halves then get a chisel and make a medial ridge, weld it on and bingo, insta size.
