I am proud to have completed my first chainmail coif and I am eager for comments. I'm sorry if the pics are really crapy but this is the best I can do. Please let me know if I have made any mistakes.

As for me that coif looks good.
My only advise would be to cover your throat more, and you could make it more longer so the coif could reach your shoulders.
But even without that this is sill a nice coif.
BTW what are the rings size ?

Smaller rings are more work but make for more effective and more realistic looking armour. But for a first time taking a shot at a project, bigger rings are a lot easier to work with.

I'll second the comment about closing the throat up, my theory is that this was the primary purpose of a coif, to protect the throat and neck, moreso than the head.

wow, looks exactly like my first one.. still working on it now, just taking a breakfast break, and a hangover break.
but yea, i like it, looks good, and i second the make it come out the the shoulders comment, thats what i'm in the midst of now.
it's taking a lot more rings than i thought it would.

what way did you use to make the top?
did you work out from one ring, or up from a band?

Looks great! You have definitely worked out the details for the hardest part of the coif - the top.

I agree I'd close up the throat more. I'd also add onto the mantle to make it bigger, though this is personal taste.

hey! not bad! im curious as to how many rings you used for the initial row on the top of the coif. on mine i used 10, but then started to get a knob on the top, so i took out the main ring, and the 10 connected to it, and put the remaining rings though one ring. im alost done with mine, using 3/8 14gu rings. but i agree with the through thing. nice job.

Thank you all for you comments. After wearing it for a while I agree that I should expand the mantel out to the sholders, and I never thought of bringing it up to the throat, I will keep that in mind.

The rings I am using are 14g 1/2 dia'. I do have a pic of the top when I was just beginning and will upload it soon. I used and expanding rows methond I found on bladeturner and I was quite pleases with the way it came out, well all but the top (its a little bunched in the center).

I started with an 18 ring circle and worked my way inward from there I worked my way out and down. I also have a haberk that I am working on and look forward to posting it on the archive.
