Is splinted aarmour very authentic. I think it would be a great alternative to full plate. Also I would like to know what a good oz. of leather would be if I were to make it. Thanks

Splinted armour is very authentic for the mid 14th. century. It is type of 'transitional' armour. Smaller plates are easier to make than large ones. It was very popular in Germany. There are several good patterns here on the archive. "Caution, you must adjust them to fit you!" I used paper to make the 'leather' vambrace and rembrace. Once I had that fitting, I put paper 'splints' on till I was happy. Then I used the paper splints for a pattern and the base pattens to cut out the leather. I used 6 Oz. and got a lot of advise from this board! Good luck.

Splinted armour is authentic for the arms and legs. For the torso the splints would be inside a covering of leather or canvas as a Coat of Plates.
