King's Lance review

King's Lance is an estore on eBay. You will see a lot of his stuff on eBay if you've ever logged on there.

He imports everyting as far as I can tell, and his prices are excellent. He recently had some 14g. bascinet shells on dutch auction, and I got two of them.

I purchased them for $55 each. When they arrived, I was shocked at how good they were! Frankly, I wasn't expecting much since they were imported from India. However, the bascinets were well-formed and well polished. Not perfect, of course, but surprisingly better than most.

I would hope that in the future the face-hole wold be smaller, (but there is at least one period bascinet that has a face hole that large). Also, the edges were sharp, and I had to de-burr them right after I got them.

I did appreciate the fact that there was no bar grill, as I haven't seen an imported bar grill yet that didn't look like ass. I've seen the same bascinet for sale with a bar grill already attached and it really didn't look right.

I would recommend these to anyone who had enough armoring ability to take something and finish it properly. If you can add a grill or make a close face, this gives you a great start on a helmet for $55. I'm going to take a piece of 14g. and frame the face hole with it to reduce the opening size, then add bars. It will be attached with a $23 bascinet lock from Chivalry bookshelf.

As far as dealing with King's Lance, he was very good with his communication and very friendly. I wouldn't recommend everything on his site, as some of the imported armor is wall-hanger stuff, some of which is poorly made. But, the quality of the Indian imports has been steadily improving, and he has some real gems on his site. If you are discerning, you can't beat the quality you get any where near his prices.
