Stonekeep: Amazing New Find for SCA Armor

We recently acquired the use of the Salvation Army gym location for use as a rainout location for practices. It just so happens that they had recently re-carpeted the entire chapel area and had tons of carpet lying around. Im not sure who thought of it first but someone had the idea of why dont we double layer the material and make some kidney belts out of it. I couldnt believe the genius of the idea! Its a low cost way to get people in armor, its comfortable, and as you can see from the pictures of Odawara wearing one below, it looks awesome.

We are making up a run of them right now, and will be offerring them on the website as soon as possible.

Uhhh, Stonekeep, I know a couple folks who wear stuff that kinda looks like that, seriously

Happy April fools day to you all, especially my Uncle Dale, who is 87 today, again seriously

But since Dale is computer illiterate, I'll have to call him....

We actually took these pictures and planned this april fools gag 5 weeks ago....lolol
Ive just been sitting on the pics waiting.
This is actually what we made up for loaner gear to suit up a bunch of newbies at a demo we had, plus its our loaner now. Works... lol and it was cheap..lol I think we have eight of them to fit various size people. I just donated the strap leather and the buckles (and the sewing). Was a cheap solution. When I took over as seneschal, the KM advised me that we had no usable loaner armor, and now we have (I think) 7 or 8 sets of heavy and a few sets of rapier. Now we have shire cards to pass out, and we shotgun our practices all over our area, hitting places we feel might drudge up some interest.

Thats a really interesting idea. I'm going to have to talk to the shire down in corpus about doing that.

The cards seem invaluable...
No finding a piece of paper and a pen to write it on something they will likely throw away. People hang on to cards more. Then while you are explaining stuff to them, you just whip out a card and say "you can go to any of these websites here and it will give you lots of information"

I had a girl delegated to take care of the cards, but she tanked on me, so John stepped up a week before our demo and took care of it. We ended up with a lot better looking cards because he has enough sense to know what looked good. we paid a little more, but the cards are actually on parchment, and have a celtic ring around the edge. I think making the cards attractive and not cheap looking is probably important for initial impressions.

At the demo we had more armor than we needed, so noone was waiting to suit up. if someone wanted to suit up, one of the shire members would start putting armor on them with no waiting.
