Ugo was down at the shop working on a film project for me and he finished up a shoulder piece for my new kit. (The client saw the started piece and wanted it on a shield.) So I thought I would share.
The new kit will be an early 14th C. With a sugarloaf to go over my bascinet cap. Here is the progress so far.
The sugarloaf top is raised .065" 1050 spring, as is the visor & sides. It will have a gilded copper cross on the face (mocked up on the helmet, the final piece is below still in pitch.
The lion shoulder is .065 brass that Ugo beat into submission (as well as a lion!)
The cop to the right is .030 1050 and has a test for the leather straps. Pressed and cut leather. I tried gilding them but did not like the look, so they will be red leather. The cop will get the same type of decoration as the bascinet cap in the background. All mounted on a quilted linen cuisse, that will have a studded, heavy leather thigh plate.

truly an inspiration. the early 14th century is way too underdone nowadays. kudos to see more doing this period!

This just gave me some ideas for my early 14th cent kit...

I think we should break them. In the cause of art of course, so he wouldn't be able to leave the bench. ;)

That is going to be a beautiful kit. I've been looking into a later kit and the early 14th century stuff is nice.

What will you do for the torso armour?

Lower legs:
Metal shininbalds with mail or leather cased greaves

Torso:
Coat of plates (Possibly with chains)

Hands:
Real Wisby gauntlets. (Not the Valarus/ Brion versions)

Pressed leather:
Made a mold, wet the leather, clamp it into the mold, let it set overnight. Cut out sections, rewet and reclamp overnight. Done

Movie is "Year One, Jack Black, directed by Harold Ramis.

I can't wait to see this kit done. Do you yet know which Coat of Plates pattern you'll use?

I've been looking for pics (either book or on the 'Net) of real wisby gauntlets. Would you be willing to share your research source?

BTW - Awesome work as always!!!

Not the armour, just the lion, it is going on a shield. Instead of sculpting a lion, I asked Ugo to finish my shoulder piece and we molded that and will use the plastic copy to make the shield tooling.
Thanks for the praise; I am looking forward to finishing this. I was planning on Estrella, but we have gotten so busy (Yes even with the strike) that I have had little time to work on this.
Even with the strike we are doing The Watchmen, Year One, refurbishing our full size Apollo LM, Land of the Lost, Escape to Witch Mountain, some prototype suits for NASA and a couple of commercials. So it has been a busy couple of months.

Wow, great detail work. Can you explain the layers that will be under the helmet in greater detail? I'm thinking linen cap, mail coilf, bascinet and then sugerloaf.

Sorry, no progress on the new suit, I got a bit distracted with another project. (2 weeks of 12 hr. days plus and all nighter Sunday.) This is a full scale Apollo Lunar module. It is with in an inch of the original. (21 ft. tall and 30 ft diagonally from pad to pad. Although missing the rendezvous and s-band antennas in these shots) We originally fabricated it for “Master of disguiseâ€
