Foam question

Post by Doe »

I heard somewhere that the blue foam most people use has been found to cause cancer (like everything else in the world does now!) and someone told me about some kind of black, medical foam that breathes better,is excellent for padding, and is , like, hypoallergetic <sp>
Has anyone heard of this foam? Is there any information on where to get it?

My guess is that the foam you're talking about is made of EVA: Ethylene Vinyl Acetate. In its solid form, it's the stuff they make biteguards out of.

I agree, it's great stuff. A wee bit stiff though.

mcmaster carries it, as well as a host of other foams.

(FWIW, I don't know of a solid foam or polymer that is carcinogenic on contact - usually you have to ingest the stuff or otherwise get it inside you, and usually in high doses. )

EVA foam is basically craft foam. Find it at a craft store.

But I'll suggest against foam every time I see this come up. I guess it's a rite of passage for new fighters. Some stick with it, others realize that it actually is possible to be comfortable while you're fighting, and then they make natural fiber padding.
Stuff I will trade for: PWM controllers, steel sheet/rod/bar (4130/410/1050/toolsteel), ITC, casting supplies, wood tools, silver, oxpho blue, gun stuff (9luger/357mag/12g/7.62x54R/22LR), hammers, stakes, or pitch me!

I don't know if thats it, I was told the other stuff was very flexible, I'm gonna have to find that group of people again and find out more.
Would you have a link for Mcmasters that I may check out their foams?

Actually, that sounds great! Do you have any info or links that show the best ways to pad with natural fiber paddin'? I would seriously be interested!
Thanks!
