Anybody as anything on how to make bone armour. I would like to do one in latex but I can't find any pictures or ideas on how it look's like. Can anyone help me?

I do not know much about the construction, however I do know that some tribes would use things like the penis bones of racoons for the decorative armor worn on the chest. Don't know how much it helps but there you go. Happy hunting.

If you are talking about the bone breatsplates and stuff, those were usually made out of long bones of deer and sometimes bison.Called hair pipe bones. Also aI have seen examples carved from horn. Most repros are made out of platic replica bones. essentially bone on either side of the chest laced together in the center. Check out some of the university museum sites from the midwest etc for pics. Most books on Native American history also address it.

Go to your favorite search engine and type in hairpipe bone breastplate. You should get a lot of sites. Most are selling them or selling kits for them but most have pictures.
I'm curious, how are you going to make it from latex? What are you going to use it for?Just being nosy.

Hey the buzzards did not eat the coons thingy you can come and get it. I ain't touching it. I heard of coon dick tooth picks but the south is full of crazy stories. You can order coon dicks from Dixie Gun Works in Tennessee. No I do not work for them. I just love the smell of black powder in the morning.

You can get real and plastic bone pipe bead at the leather factory (www.leatherfactory.com I think) the plastic are cheaper, but they do have some "antiquied" ones that look decent. They were generally made from what I've seen with two or four rows of bones with the bones themselves set horizontally. Between each row is a leather strip, but set "sideways" (the thin part against the chest) so that you had rooms for your hole for the sinew to hold the bones in place. It the front is basically mirrored on the back usually, I think. For better protection, you could have a row that runs down the side.
These were often more cerimonial than useful. They would not stop an arrow, but they did allow some protection against a club on an axe.
As far as "racon penis bone armor" I'm pretty sure that the penis of ALL species is cartlage and as such there is no "bone" to use inspite of the common slang term of a "boner" refering to an erection. I may be wrong as I never do in depth research into penises (Penisi?)

erm, not that I WANT to kill the humor here, but the racoons' "bones" really are bones.
Walruses (walri?) have bones there, too -of course, theirs are quite a bit larger... There was a quite famous katana floating around with a "bone" hilt, as a matter of fact!
You dirty minds can take that where
ever you want...

Those breastplate weren't actually armour. just something pretty to wear in the summer heat instead of the leather shirts. The hair-pipe would be far to delicate to ward off any type of blow, especially the blunt trauma incountered with warclubs. Ya'll are absolutely right about the penis bones, any medium sized mammal's would do (the inuit actually used whale penis bones as clubs!).
Shorter hair pipe could also be made from the leg bones of rabbits and large birds.

I have a set of Filipino scale armor that I bought at a yard sale. The scales are made from pieces of water buffalo horn and laced to a backing of woven river reeds with hemp cord (I think). Each scale is exactly 2" by 2" and are roughly 1/8" thick, well capable of taking a blow. Pretty light, too, only weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. If you wanted to, you could get cow horns at your local slaughterhouse, heat them until they are flexible, flatten them and cut scales or lamellae from them. Just a thought.

In doing research, I did run across an account of what was supposed to be the earliest form of armor, quite earlier than SCA period, which was a forearm bracer made of bone. Seems to me it would look cool to make a fairly simple suit of mild steel, dark blue it, then make faux bones from stainless to affix to it in places.

For all sorts of critter parts, try this link:

This is Moscow Hide and Fur, definitely a great place to buy stuff. I've done business with them several times, and have always been quite pleased with the service, and products.
