I'm looking for a source for a split face rawhide hammer. Didn't have any luck on the search function. One of the local leather supply places has one, but it's $98!
I'm hoping someone here knows of a somewhat cheaper source.
Thanks!

Hammer
Hey Alan, I'm guessing you want the hammer for dishing armor. Just a sugestion, look at the FBM03 at www.FournierEnterprises.com I have been using one for about a year and I love it. I thought it might be too light or not hold up. I have been pleasantly surprised. I have dished a fair amount with it including 14 guage stainless. I don't know if anyone else here has used these? Anyway, my two cents

O.k., here is my secret....
I look on Ebay and search for "Garland" "Rawhide Hammer" "Split head" "Chicago Rawhide" "Greene and Tweed" and "mallet". Sometimes these yield a zero, so my last search is "Basa Hammer".
The most I have paid has been $8 + shipping (equal to hammer cost or more for a #4 or #5). The cheapest I have paid was $1 for one that needs new heads. Heads run around $5 + shipping on there. Still much cheaper than new from Garland or from Blacksmith supply. We have three huge flea markets around me also that yield them occasionally that I can dicker with the price, so I am fortunate.
