Non-Steel and Non-Leather armouring materials

Post by ^ »

Outside of barrel or sheet plastic I was wondering what other materials people have had success making hidden armor out of?

Aluminum. Some hidden, some not so hidden.

I used a tennis shoe as a cup onetime.

But other than that the most common not leather, metal thing that I have seen is like hockey knees / arms, and the like.

Motocross, mountain biking, and lacrosse all have "close enough" coverage that they are frequently hidden.
Westerners, we have forgotten our origins. We speak all the diverse languages of the country in turn. Indeed the man who was poor at home attains opulence here; he who had no more than a few deiners, finds himself master of a fourtune.

Wouldn't call it "successful" but my very first harness made use of car tires. Sears nylon belted radial, if memory serves.

A local theater group did a production of MacBeth with a post apocalyptic set years ago.

The warriors all had tire armor, and in that context, it was pretty sweet.

The axes were very crude things. Circular saw blades cut into quarters then welded to pipe.

So before I totaly derail the thread, I'd avoid tires. After the profuse and repeated thanks and appologies said theater group offered to the workshop owner where they made the tire armor, I got the impression that the aftermath of such a project in terms of mess would never really be worth the effort.
It looked better in my head....
Damnit.

We can always hail back to the bad old days of carpet armor

I've also seen garden hose stitched into a vest as armor and life-vests as body armor.

They are hockey gloves covered with fireplace gloves - and yes. Although the stitching is failing .... (damn armor maintenance....)

I wore a Tae Kwan Do chest protector (once) as body armor back in the day when my first Wisby coat was still a work-in-progress. It worked fine but it made me look like the Pilsbury Doughfighter even with a tabard over the top.
