Welded Maille, Master Knut

Post by Aelric »

Can someone please send me contact info for Master Knut. I'm going to be needing some welded stainless maille soon. Does anyone know if he makes welded mild steel maille too??

Aelric, it just so happens that I will have a welded mild steel maille shirt to part with in January. The links are solid, flat, nice and small. I can post a pic of me wearing another shirt like it in a few hours (need to get home first). E-mail me at dvryaboy@hotmail.com if you are interested.

Oh, just thought I'd qualify that -- it isn't made by Master Knut, it's made by reenactors in Russia. As far as I know, they are not planning to do stainless.
I'd love to give you Knut's contact info but I don't have it..

Or...

You can try to contact Ondart de Clermont (mka John Givans), who owns a Knut shirt regarding his availability, e-mail, etc. BTW, Knut does indeed make welded mild steel shirts...but the one in the above post is available...

If you want to see more detail, here is the same pic except much larger: http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~sca/pics/Dmitriy-half-l.jpg (Warning: it's 244 K, I didn't have time to play with it).

Dimitriy,

What are you asking for the shirt? Do you want cash or a trade?

Related question.

Does anyone else see what I'm seeing?

It looks like, the body of the shirt has no expansion points, Knut made a flat piece and made a vertical slit for the head hole.
That automatically pushes the shoulders out and allows for the shoulders to move forward.

Dmitriy- How well does it move?
and am I right?

Au Contraire! The suit above that Dmitri owns is manufactured in Russia. Master Knut's work has armpit gussets, elbow gussets and sleeves that are set at an angle. I know---I owned one of his shirts (until I got too fat to wear it) Image

Also, (for those who didn't know) Master Knut's e-mail recently changed. I no longer have his current address, but the issue was discussed before the Archive crash. Lord Ondart de Clermont has his current information---one could do a search on postings made by Ondart and get his e-mail to get the address for Knut.

OK, OK

In the picture above

It looks like, the body of the shirt has no expansion points. Was it made a flat piece and made a vertical slit for the head hole?
That would automatically push the shoulders out and allow for the shoulders to move forward.

Dmitriy- How well does it move? And how are the arm pits done?
and am I right?

Sebastian -- you are wrong Image

The body has expansions (if you look very closely at the shirt whn my crude attempt at lamellar isn't on top of it), you can even see the V of th eexpansion. THe shirt is actuall very well tailored, or at least fits me well.
I'll need to take a look at the sleeves -- I think they have gussets, but don't remember. I'll report back in a few hours.

The shirt moves great on me, the sleeves are a bit past the elbow, so I might trim that, but it's great on all other counts.

Okay this is why I want someone else to own one -- I sound like a used car salesman...
