Armourers in S. California...

Post by Dierick »

I'm looking to be a shop monkey... I don't require much maintenance, if any. :P I'm going to definitely be in either Santa Barbara or the Redlands(most likely the redlands) come July.

Basically me and my fiance are moving out there for three months(maybe longer) for her job. Housing and utilities are paid for by her company. Since we are only going to be there for three months its not likely that I will find a normal job that pays worth a crap. I have my fiance's blessing to armourers/jewlers/blacksmiths to do a bit of work with and learn a thing or two.

My schedule will be kinda tentative. She will be working nights, so my days while she is at home sleeping will be free. I won't have any tools of my own, outside of a few hammers and such for maintenance of my armour.

Oh, and while I'm at it, might as well ask if there are any living history/sca members from the area here.

If you're in Redlands, the local SCA group will be the Barony of Dreiburgen. You'll be within a couple hours of most "downtown" Caidan events.

Hugh Knight, of Die Schlachtschule ("SirRhys" on the Archive) is nearby in Moreno Valley.

Can't speak for any other LH or WMA presence, as I'm pretty much an SCA guy.

If you're in Santa Barbara, that'll be the Shire of Isles. It's a smaller group than Dreiburgen and a bit farther out, but some good folks there. Look up the other Sir Rhys ("rhys" on the Archive) and his lady, Viscontessa Jimena ("Widow Montoya").

Oh, and as for armourers, I don't know of any out this way, but you'd be about 1 to 1.5 hr down I15 to North San Diego County, which is where Historic Enterprises, West Coast Armoury ("Sir Brand"), and James River Armoury ("Armourer Eric") all are.

I guess I'm game to talk about it, I'm about 80 miles south of Redlands.

Isn't William Hurt reasonably nearby, too?
