238 plates, 1428 holes punched, and i don't know how many rings later I've finished my new maille and plates armour.
I wont claim it's historically accurate, but i will say that it's inspired existent pieces, and i feel it's pretty plausible.
coming up next for it is going to be a padded liner that i can lace into it, then I'll be getting onto some bauzabands and maille and plate cuises... I'm not sure if I spelled those last two right.
now onto the part you all really care about. pictures....
here are some finished pics

and here are some progress pics and a how to, though the last couple of steps in the how to are still in the works

so what do you all think?

The armour looks pretty neat. Reminiscent of jazerant.

Badass! I don't think I've ever seen a repro of that type of armour. Pretty neat!

It would be nice if the medievals made up their minds about what a jazerant/jazerain actually was. ;_;
So I won't disagree with you, but I'll say it looks more like a
bechter.
I started -and abandoned- a project of making a pair of buskins in a similar fashion, so all I can say is I admire your tenacity. =D
I got so irritated, trying to get the overlap to lay right!

I think you'll enjoy wearing this.

Schweet, I've seen some bechter armours that look similar, so i'd say it's a plausible design. With an Eastern European or Islamic helm, that would be super bad ass. Are you planning to put mail sleaves on it as well?

i was thought about making maille sleeves for it, but decided against it on account of the fact that i hate making maille. i am however planing on gradually swapping the butted maille out for riveted.
so for the plan should end up with this harness having a very Turkish flavor

I look forward to seeing the whole kit (and hitting it ).

That looks great and an armor that is not done nearly as much as it should be. The only issue I have is the butted maille, but it seems you are on the right track in replacing it to riveted.

I have returned.
Rather nice work! I don't know if you intentionally made the lames so curved, but that's a minor concern considering the rarity of these (yup, I still love mail&plate). Only major difference compared to originals is that they most usually stopped somewhere between waist and navel, and a differently made "skirt" (either from pure mail, or from narrower plates) were added, and sometimes it just ended there.
But considering how varied these were even back then, if it moves OK, no problem with that...
Congrats!

Ooops, somehow I thought that he mentioned that he'll be adding them later... maybe I should sleep more than 4 hours/day...
You're right, Animal... arms are needed... idiot me...

WELL DONE. Its refreshing to see the seldom replicated armor styles.
