shoulderblade protection on a COP

Post by beholder »

so, i have nearly finished my coat of plates and currently am making the shoulderblade protection. i know it isn't period but since i am fighting steel to steel it is really necessary. i have decided to go with two square plates but it seems i am having difficulty in shaping it to be comfortable. any suggestions?

Several of the Wisby COPS had shoulder plates. Those with access to more fancy books than I will surely post some pics for you.

The KuBnasch (sp for sure) coat has it. It's not from wisby though. It's what I make kits for. You want to have a rectangular plate in the middle with a lung shaped plate on each side. You need to curve the lung plates on both axis to fit properly.

Cool, but that plate's for the point of the shoulder, right ? Sort of acorn spaulder thing ? I don't think it's going to work for going over the shoulder blades ;)

Matt, the big beta is a German double S -- Kussnach.

Boy, it sure is a PITA trying to find an online image of the silver Pistoia altarpiece in question -- there are a lot of painted altarpiece panels in Pistoia of later date than the 1376 silver one. It's on p. 75 of AAOTMK, if you have that.
