I was a lowes today and noticed they had sheets of "weldsteel". The Question being is weldsteel the same as mild steel?

Yes, it's mild steel. It's the last place you want to buy it, but if you have no other source there it is.

Telephone book, yellow pages, under "Steel" "Steel Fabricators" "Welding & Welding Supplies". These people make things of steel, mostly by welding, shearing, and bending, and they will sell steel more cheaply than Lowe's. They get it a bunch cheaper.
