Hello Guys,

Finally I got some time to upload the pictures of my next current project, italian style bascinet. It is based on the piece from Musee del armee and some more contemporary pieces. Now it is grinded and more or less sanded, waiting for the liner, aventail and final touches. Both parts are 2,5 mm mild steel. Hope you will like it.

all the best

Hi Jiri,
Its looking really good. Not wanting to hijack the thread but I am interested in your heat set up. It looks similar to Eric things. How have you found it and do you have a base below the forge top piece. What diametwer is your forge can/top piece. WOuld you think teh next one may be larger or smaller?

Hello Guys,

thank you for the comments. The work should be difinitelly finished early next week. Aventail is cut, liner started to be produced. Sorry for no new pix, I can not upload pix from my camera. Maybe just broken cable. Once I have time to fix it, I will post it.

Andrew, PM will be sent in a while

Guys, sorry for the delay, the hat is finished for a while but the light is too poor to make good pictures. I hope theese will be good enough as preview. I promise to send some better soon.

I got several questions about the visor - no it is not welded cone, it was 2,5mm flat sheet, raised into the cone.

Wow! Classic armour pr8n!

And I really like what you did with the aventail, especially the part going over the mouth of the wearer. If you don't mind me asking, do you have more info on how you made the lining? For instance, is the lining of the aventail attached to the lining of the bascinet?

My Eric Dubé bascinet has been waiting for a liner for more than a year now (this is a crime, I know!) and I think this is the way I would like to make mine.

Congrats!

Thank you for the comments, guys.

The liner of the aventail is attached to the helmet lining. It is hand stitched, linen cloth. I made most of the paterning, but my mother produced it.

all the best

Wow, fantastic. Between work like yours, and watching vids of the Battle of the 30 on Youtube, its becoming harder and harder to resist the pull of the 14th Century....just love the Viking era so much.

Nice work is an understatement. Bravo.
