Price Vs. Quality of Aluminum

Post by Kayne »

Hey I found a place to get some great aluminum and was wondering if its worth the money for making a shield out of. There is actually enough for 2 4'x'4 pieces i can get lower grade for less money but i want somthing thats going to last and not keep fatiguing after a 2 or 3 months and brake. Been using sign grade aluminum. FYI. Any input would be great thanks

Here the stuff im looking at.
7075 T651 plate
.250" x 48.000" x 96.000" - 1 piece = $592.18 each piece.

I bought a piece of that in the last few years. I wouldn't want to strap a piece of quarter inch thick aluminum on my arm. It's quite heavy.

7075 T651 plate is the strongest commonly available sheet aluminum and would make a fine shield but .25 is ridiculously thick for anything larger than a buckler. With that alloy you would want .07 to .09 thickness material if they have it.

.125" would be fine: not superlight but a very reasonable weight for most typical shield sizes, In that materila it will last pretty much forever.
