Splinted legs / alternative to leather ?

Post by Kristoffer »

Well, the topic speaks for itself really.. I am going to make a pair of splinted legs but I am looking for something to use instead of leather. Does a couple of layers of canvas work or do you have a better suggestion ?

It'll work, did my first (and only) splinted vambrace with strips of steel rivited to two layers of army blankets. So I had padding and armour in one. I needed something which worked, nothing fancy. Never used them in the end though.

But now come the critisism, You have to use (hardened) leather if you want to be historical correct. But if you just want something to make sure your arm won't break to quickly when fighting it'll do.

Some rubber could do the job and still look like leather from a distance.
