Greetings
I have noticed lately that alot of people are starting to be really concerned about neck protection.
:::Case in point::::
Current helm mets with the SCA requirments for the grill work, and wearinging a steel gorget. BUT if a upward thrust connects between the gorget and helm face guard a serious injury may occur. One member here was struck this way and had to stop fighting for the day. At the fight I thoiught he had crushed his throat.
I was thinking of a flap of grill work added to the face grill. but unsure if this would work? As it may bind or prevent a person from looking left or right. Also thought of adding (WELDING)a grill work system to the chest plate that would ride forward of the helm face grill and curve around to end at the shoulders.
Any thoughts on this??
gorgets and additional throat protection

I agree with you but it seems like too many things items are being mandated for safety. I feel since there is a signed waiver on file a few items can be optional and not mandated.
I was at a practice yesterday and found out that underneath $300.00 arms and legs I just bought still need knee and elbow pads when these offer great protection, padding under gorget (understood), padding under gaunts when they are enclosed inside shield and sword baskets, no sneakers even though they provide adequate support and provide great traction.
We are out there hitting each other HARD with big sticks, unfortunately there will be injuries. That can not be avoided unless we dont hit each other with big sticks anymore. I would hate to see them outlaw head shots and switch to padded swords.
Sorry about the rant but I feel the it's getting a little much.

I agree that at times the rules kill a sport!!! I did not mean to write the post as a possible rule change (god to many rules as it is)
And the rant is ok in my mind cause that is how I felt when I was asked about additional neck/throat protection. But after seeing the effects of a throat hit ,,,I am thinking it may be a good idea. Not a mandatory thing but just a option a person can use.

One word: aventail. I'm planning on having an aventail on my next helmet, a klappvisier bascinet.
The helmet I have right now has a strap which connects from my leg suspension belt to the bottom of my visor. The more I try and tilt my head back to allow the gap shot, the more the visor comes down to close it.

I use a steel padded gorget and a butted maille camail. The combination works really well. Still working on saving up cash for a large Forth Armory purchase, so I can make a aventail and a hauberk.... the maille underneath the CoP adds SO much to the look...but havinga decent strength butted maille would require a heavier gauge and adding another 27 pounds (the weight of my current 14ga butted maille hauberk) to my kit is just silly...
