leggings?

Post by James of York »

I have heard of people wearing leggings over combat boots or other mundane footware to make them look like period boots. Does anyone have further information or patterns on this topic.

I have heard of them refered to as "spats". Sorry, I don't have any patterns, but you should be able to do it with normal foot wear patterns, leaving off the bottoms. Then add a strap that goes under the foot (right near the heal on boots) to hold them in place.

They are about the same as morern military gators. Do a search for ww1 or WW2 military gear and uniforms. There was a web site on garb that had instructions for them. They called them english half chaps half chaps. If I can find the site I'll post the adress. Onz

Well, I bought some black vinyl for $3.77 a yard and made a pair. They don't look half bad, thanks again for the link. I may just make some leather ones when these fall apart.
