for the question of how low the visor goes - It seems like it would depend on how high your bevor goes. I am not really into sallets, but it seems like bevors that go up to the upper lip and a visor and crown that end about the lower lip/chin are what i have seen. The effect without the bevor is that the lower jaw is partially exposed.

Eyeslots vary (modern helmets tend to have pretty big eyeslots) - but I want to say about 1/4-3/16ths of an inch is about as small as they seem to be historically. I wouldn't go over 3/8 inch if you want to keep a historical look.

Crooked along which axis? One end higher than the other?

That just makes them look more like most of the real ones.

so true - but I can understand someone wanting to 'tighten the tolerances' a bit.

I actually like the couple small flaws in my new helm... it makes it feel 'real'.

if you can, it may help to take a picture and show the issue itself.
