A question about the faulds. They look like they are directlt articulated to each other rather than to internal leathers. Is that the case? I had thought that the italian style harnesses from this period generally used some form of internal leathers.

Thanks again for posting this.
Thanks!!

Yeah, it's true the fauld/culet should be on leathers eventually. Currently the fauld and culet are still in the rough, so are temporarily fitted with screws. They'll be on internal leathers when it's assembled. I still have to put the leathers' holes in but that'll come soon as we'll heat treat next week.

If you look at extant cuirasses, they have rivet heads showing where my screws are, and they just blank off the test fitting holes. There are open holes on the underlapping upper plates, which you can see from the inside on most Italian "ball and socket" type cuirasses like this one I'm building.

Good eye. When I get to that stage I'll put up a couple of photos of the assembly arrangement.

Jeff,

I was discussing a similar suit and the topic of arms and shoulders was raised. Can I ask what you are planning to do for the shoulder protection?

Thanks,
Sean

It's a great bascinet.

Reference the title of this thread- the cuirass is the part on the body, the helmet is a great bascinet.

I love that tourney visor :D The original is one of my favorite pieces and you have done a good job with it on this helm.

I also have relatives in San Diego so I might be able to take you up on your shop visit invite someday.

Arms are on order, so at this rate, the client and his harness will take their first lance strikes by the middle of summer.... 8)
