A question about the faulds. They look like they are directlt articulated to each other rather than to internal leathers. Is that the case? I had thought that the italian style harnesses from this period generally used some form of internal leathers.

Yeah, it's true the fauld/culet should be on leathers eventually. Currently the fauld and culet are still in the rough, so are temporarily fitted with screws. They'll be on internal leathers when it's assembled. I still have to put the leathers' holes in but that'll come soon as we'll heat treat next week.
If you look at extant cuirasses, they have rivet heads showing where my screws are, and they just blank off the test fitting holes. There are open holes on the underlapping upper plates, which you can see from the inside on most Italian "ball and socket" type cuirasses like this one I'm building.
Good eye. When I get to that stage I'll put up a couple of photos of the assembly arrangement.
