I am looking for a 5/8-11 female thread on one end and a collet for 1/4" shank tools on the other end.

I would like to use my air grinder 1/4" shank flap wheels, stones and drum sanders on my right angle grinder.

The grinder spindle is 5/8"-11 UNC.

Yes, I have thought about making one.
Perhaps a 5/8"-11 grade 8 coupling nut and weld an old air grinder collet to it.
However at 10,000 RPM slight misalignment becomes problematic.

So any of you tool gurus know where I can get this adaptor?

it sounds like something that might have have custom made.
or you could start looking for an eletric die grinder on Ebay or craigslist.

Have you thought about looking into Dremel and things like that, and seeing if their collet nuts go up to that size? If so, that may be a cheap way to get what you are looking for. I can go and measure the standard one I have, but I think it is more like 1/2" than 5/8"

What started this search... my air die grinder died after 9 years of hard use.
Not that it wore out, it fell from the bench and broke the goesenta flange.

I will replace it, but I was looking for a way to save on my poor air compressor.
It can not keep up with the air tool demands.

I will start by removing the 1/4" collet from the grinder then going from there.
Looks like a little innovation may be needed.
Perhaps a machined bore 5/8"-11 adaptor and press fit is in order.
I am sure welding will warp it to an unusable out of balance condition.

Another option is to have an adaptor with a 1/4" bore and use set screws.
I can drill the 1/4" bore on the lathe to insure alignment.

I sure like my various sizes of drum sanders.
They make the nicest radius on the metals edge.

For instance; on cheek plates, I clamp them together and use the drum sander to shape and match each piece together.
