Kettel hat brim

Post by Hugo de Stonham »

I'm in the prosses of making a kettel hat and was wondering about how wide should the brim of the helmet? I wish I could post some progress pics right now but I don't have a realy good camera (all I have at hand is a quick cam).

Grendel,

You might want to take a look at the kettle hat pattern in the archive.

Not sure just how the brim will mate up with your top, but it's a place to start ...

What period's it from? Have a look at contemporary pics from that period and use them as a guide.

I'm not sure on the period but I'm going to say late 13th to early 14th century. I do have the pattern for the kettel hat on the archive but I figured if I made the top simmilar to a spangelhelm then it would be relatively easy. I'm not sure how period it would be but I've seen it made this way in a few movies.
