The Hurin looks awsome. i love the subtle details like the curving on the ends of the brown band. Nothing like good attention to detail. Shows that the craftsman loves what he is doing.

Hi GP, Looking great as usual, I still like the sallet the best and the armadillo helm next. The only change I would make to the armadillo helm is to add some detail to the cheek plates. Decorative plates, or even just some rivets, or anything else you can think of. Keep up the great work and thanks for the pics, Ill ship your stake out monday.

Take care

Hi Tomi, Wow I like the Phyrgian helm alot, the crossbar looks neat in the eye sockets and the splash of brass dressed it up nice. Nice lines on the helm too. Keep up the good work!

Thank you

Could you post a couple pictures of various angles of the back? I would find it very helpful. Thank for this step by step sallet construction. Very, very handy.

I got the neck and visor done today. It needs a little adjusting and then grinding and sanding.

Romulus, I'll take more pics next time.

Thanks PB!

This is the best sallet I have done so far but the visor is still bit asymmetrical. Need to fix that before I finish this one.

It would appear you have made the visor from 2 peices. Is it easier to get the concave curve of the lower visor bit that way? A couple of us are looking at large, almost snowplow-esquwe bevors for various bascinetes, and doing them in 2 peices to get that kind of curve was about the fastest andeasiest way I could come up with doing it. We have been inspired by the likes of Mac and Best Armour, with their large, intimidating bevors and visors.

The visor is just one piece of 1,5mm mild steel, only the top part is welded. It took couple of hours to make that visor.

I never thought of making it two piece, but that way I could probably get a better and more accurate shape. Now it is bit too round.

Thanks!

Wulfgar,

I don't take international orders at this time. I have enough orders to fill my summer vacation. But maybe in the future I take some orders.

Halberds,

Yes, I used your awesome tools! It took about 30min to dish one halve in your doughnut. It used to take hours before I got your tools. I also used that T-stake to shape and raise the visor and neck plate.

And a little update.

The new sallet is done. Here's some pics: http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a370/ ... allet%203/

Hi there GP, The lines on your armor look super crispy, and the articulation looks very clean and tight. Cool design on the fans also. Keep on Piggin.

Take care

Hi Pitbull and thanks!

Yes, the articulation came out pretty good. I used my own "formula" (maybe not mine by i figured it out) to make the articulation and it seems to work.

And I also finished those arms today. Next monday I'll start making some gauntlets.

Started making making new gauntlets today and here's what I got done today.

Does anyone know if these type of gauntlets were constructed with sliding rivets?

Assuming you are aiming for mid-late 16th c. gauntlets.

No. No sliding rivets in any I have played with. The lames are usually small enough and the rivets large enough that they wouldn't go anywhere anyway.

The gauntlet is usually formed with a longer side on the thumb side and shorter on the other side. They move well up and down (you have nice 'droop', most people miss that) and not so well the other way.

Thanks mr. Allen! No sliding rivets.

Forgot to mention that these gauntlets are made of 1,5mm cold rolled steel and fingers will be 1mm steel.

I got some work done today. I shaped the cuffs, made couple hinges and little tweaking. Cuffs need more planishing.

Thanks Matt and Pitbull!

I got the hinged cuff idea from Wallace collection cataloque. There's a pair of gauntlets number A269 with hinged cuff.

Today I satrted making spaulders for the gothic arms, and I also did some heat bluing tests. I never thought I could heat blue with a butane torch.

I've enjoyed these updates immensely.
This latest pair of arms - the elbows in particular - are inspiring me to pick up the hammer again. Thank you,
