Looking forward to seeing the bascinet. Will it be one of the narrow faced variety with tubular vervelles?

I espeicially liked the close helm. Those are a bitch to pattern and fit right. Nice symetry-great attention to detail. Right down to important things like sneck hooks and pegs.

It never occured to me to weld up a visor and then cut out the sights. That would be a great way to get in those hard to do "stop shelves" the bottoms of some have too.

Great work GP!

I was wondering, are you dishing all of your domes with a hammer into one of Halberds dishing donuts?

I was thinking of ordering one soon. I know they have many uses.

Thx

Thanks!

Yes, I use Halberds made dishing doughnut. I think I have the small version and it works simply great. You can dish cops and helmet halves with it. Buy one (or three) from Hal and you won't regret it.

Hi Ghostpig,
Could you tell us a little bit about how you finish the metal in your projects? How you clean up a weld and what tools you use to get the surfaces to your liking? I'd Also really love to see a picture of all the tools you use to get a helmet mostly shaped and ready for surface preparation.

thanks!

Thank you zippy for bumping this thread. This man looks to be a god of amouring based on how fast he was able to get items made.

Yes it has been too long since I last time swinged my hammers. Zero shop time because of full time day job. But when I get some time I'll finish that bascinet and other orders that I have waiting. And some day I'll make a new version of that Húrin helmet with all the brass, leather and dragons.

Have some time to play in my shop so I started to make a second version of thet Húrin helmet. Not a commission, just for fun.

Top halves and bands 2,5mm cold rolled mild and rest 2mm. This time it will have some brass decorations and I'm gonna blue/blacken this like that gjermundbu/coppergate I made earlier.

Anyone know how to make crests? What materials to use? I'd like to make that dragon crest to go with the helmet.

He has been pretty quiet lately hasn't he.... after his last helmet maybe he just is taking an awesomeness break. If I made a helmet like that I might have to take a break as well.

I don't have any time for armouring until july. Then I have three weeks to finish that bascinet and Hurin v2. Hurin helmet will have removable grill and face plate and I also have some ideas how to make that dragon crest to go with the helmet. It will be on sale once it's done.

Hi folks!

Got some things done. Made a dragon crest. It is made of polymer clay, original Sculpey and Super Sculpey and baked hard. I'll paint it later. And also made new nasal nasal pieces. Next I'm going to make wax models and had them cast. They will be brass.

Got the brasses installed and the grill welded. also the dragon is painted. They still need some tweaking and I'm gonna redo the face plate. Don't like it anymore.

Thanks Hal!

Got the Húrin v2 done today. I scrapped the old face and tried to make a new one but that didn't work either. So no face plate here, just the grill. Overall I'm happy how the helm turned out.

This will go to the classifieds once I figure out a proper price tag. How much should I charge?

I'd say at least $1000. Fantastic work BTW!
